Community Garden Update

It's official - the perfect spot has been secured for South Taranaki's newest community garden. Work has started on preparing the whenua (land) at Hawera's St Mary's Anglican Church. There's a lot of mahi (work) to do on the Princes Street site but the church, Sustainable Taranaki, Enviroschools and the local community are committed to turning the area where a derelict hall was removed, into a vibrant hub of community interaction.

Meet Our Team - Dallas Ngaio Tahuaroa (Watson)

Dallas of Te Atiawa and Taranaki Iwi, Ngāti Rāhiri, Ngāti Moeahu and Ngāti Haupoto Hapū is inspiring Ngā Motu students as Kairuruku (Education coordinator) for the collaborative three-year environmental program Te Ara Taiao that’s expanding to New Plymouth schools.

She aspires to build a better understanding of how to tiaki (care) our taiao (natural environment) and be part of the change needed to protect our whenua (land). After graduating with a Bachelor of Education, Dallas is passionate about implementing Te Reo Māori me ōna tikanga for tamariki, through building healthy relationships.

Spending time with whānau at her Waitara and Parihaka homesteads brings Dallas joy, along with mahi māra -working in the garden.
