The Sustainable Taranaki tīma ☀️

☀️ Nature Cleanup tomorrow at the Wind Wand!

Come and help us clean the beautiful Coastal Walkway! This event is family and young kids-friendly! Your pēpi and tamariki are welcome!

ALL WELCOME! You do NOT need to be “fit” or stay for the full 1.5 hours. Any help is MUCH APPRECIATED!

📍 Meet us at 10am at the Wind Wand on the coastal walkway.

🧤 BYO gloves & buckets if possible (we’ll provide some) + BYO coffee cups as the Sunny Coffee Caravan will offer half-price coffee to all the volunteers! ☕☀️

BONUS: Everyone who participates in this school holiday nature clean-up will be invited to join a special 1-hour Tour of the Junction Zero Waste Hub starting at 1pm outside the JUNCTION REUSE SHOP. 

We’ll give away $5 REUSE SHOP vouchers at the clean-up to people interested in joining the tour. More details will be shared in person at the clean-up.

🌿 Protecting our Taonga: the importance of Kiwi Monitoring

Following the release of 100 kiwi on Taranaki Maunga and Patuha – the largest release season so far - Ngā Manu Pīkoko have the opportunity to contribute to a fundamental part of ensuring the hauora of our manu taonga, through kiwi monitoring. 

🧑‍🌾 Last calls for the 2025 Sustainable Trails!

We are getting close to confirming the details of the Sustainable Trails event this year. With a range of hosts and exciting events lining up, it is not an event to miss. Save the dates: Backyards 31 October - 9 November, and Farms and Builds 10 - 16 November. ☀️

👀 Advertising in our Booklet
We print 8,000 copies of the Trails Booklet, which are distributed across the region and provide an awesome opportunity to align your business with the important mahi of the Sustainable Trails.

🧑‍🌾 Farms and Backyards
We are looking at bringing in more farms and backyards to the Trails this year. If you have or know of someone who uses sustainable gardening or farming practices, get in touch. The Trails is an amazing opportunity to share your journey, learn from and inspire others.

🌱 The FDMC Plant Nursery project

“Our fruit and vege harvest is all donated to the local food bank, and we donate many of our kowhai plants to the local hospice shops. Each year, our senior students spend a day planting 1000 native trees for local farmers.”

Francis Douglas Memorial College has a well-established agriculture/horticulture programme, built up over the last 7 years by HOD Aimee Watkins. On the school farm site, fondly referred to as the Agridome, they have an orchard, vege gardens and a plant nursery which their students develop and maintain as part of their coursework. 👀 Meet Suzy, our Zero Waste Manager!

With 23 years of experience working in conservation and sustainability, Suzy brings to this role her expertise in the three areas she loves the most: working with passionate people, sustainability and having fun at events. She is passionate about finding ways for everyone to make a difference in whatever way they can. Suzy has an Environmental Science degree and a broad history of facilitating and training teams. 🌿
