Showing signs of environmental changes, acknowledging family members we lost during the year, and what the cluster means: read below what Hone shares with us. ⏬

🌱 Te Ara Taiao latest updates!

“We have been busy in 9 kura from Tamarongo in Ōpunakē to Fitzroy and out to Waitoriki. Lots of rakau ID, seed sowing, pest control, planting and mahi toi to name a few.

We have also had some experts visit a couple of schools in the lead-up to an amazing project with Wai Connection and Wild for Taranaki. Watch this space...”

🥨 Green Loop featured on RNZ + we want more food waste!

Last week, we were thrilled to be featured by RNZ on Checkpoint! We love the growing kōrero around local, practical solutions for organic waste!

One of the key things that makes our approach different is that the solution is truly local.

Organic waste collected from our business partners begins fermenting on-site before being transported just 17km to our farm for processing, not hundreds of kilometres away.

Over the following weeks, the material is fully fermented, creating a highly acidic environment that helps eliminate potential pathogens and transforms food waste into a valuable resource.

We're proud to work with a diverse range of businesses, including hotels like Novotel New Plymouth and Millennium Hotels, plus restaurants, offices, and even manufacturers such as Altherm and construction companies like Clelands.

Together, we're proving that a circular economy isn't just a concept; it's something businesses can participate in today with these benefits:

♻️ Divert organic waste from landfill (with low hassle)
📍 Support a genuinely local solution
📊 Strengthen sustainability and ESG commitments
🤝 Partner with an innovative regional business creating measurable impact

Are you a Taranaki business wanting a better solution for food waste? We'd love to talk! Send an email to Sophie today!

🌿 Hāwera & Waiwhakaiho: feedback on our latest Nature Cleanups!

TWO Nature Cleanups and TWO beautiful events full of locals (and rubbish!).

💚 Hāwera: 14 volunteers picked up 280 litres of litter with a 36% landfill diversion (recycling, glass, compost and reused items). Ngā mihi to the TOI Foundation for supporting this event.
💚 Waiwhakaiho: 40 volunteers collected 1,330 litres of rubbish with 28% diverted from landfill! Special ngā mihi to Glen Skipper from Ngāti Tawhirikura and to NPDC for the support.

🌻 2026 Sustainable Trails: Angels wanted!

Always wanted to be a Trail Angel, but don’t live anywhere near Te Araroa? We are looking for Trail Angels to support the Taranaki Sustainable Trails at this year’s event. With the economic crisis hitting people hard, it is even more important to help people connect with ideas to grow kai and be inspired to grow sustainably with the environment. 🧑‍🌾 Key info:

  • WHEN? The 2026 edition is from Friday 30 Oct - Sunday 15 Nov. Trails Angels are only needed for 3 hours. You choose which day, time and property suits you best!

  • WHAT? Trail Angels will greet visitors, take tickets, record information and give directions.

  • WHY? You will help us a LOT, and you will get a bundle card (5 x visits to Backyards), 3 packets of seeds, refreshments from the host + some may offer seedlings too!
