Project Hotspot is a citizen science initiative driven by the Nga Motu Marine Reserve Society, run through schools and supported by scientists, community groups and the
wonderful folks of Taranaki. Thanks to incredible assistance from the local community, the Project Hotspot team has been busy capturing sightings of four coastal threatened species in Taranaki: orca/kera wēra, reef heron/matuku moana, little blue penguin/kororā and New Zealand fur seal/kekeno. This information is being used to better protect these species and their habitats. Come along to hear more about the project, what we’ve found out so far and hear a few entertaining stories, including some juicy confessions worthy of your ‘favourite’ gossip magazine.
