The George Mason scholarships are awarded annually to enable young graduates to pursue a course of study relating to the Taranaki region and its natural world.
PhD student Olivier Laroche is carrying out research into how environmental monitoring of offshore mining activities can be improved. He will discuss how his method could reduce analysis costs and allow more frequent and rapid reporting, something of crucial importance given the projected expansion of offshore mining activities.
University of Auckland PhD student Catriona Thompson will also speak about her north Taranaki based research which charts the impact of wave impact forcing on cliff recession.
