We are doing an elderly outreach project and we want you to be part of the fun.
Thornleigh Park Rest Home on Heta Rd. will be holding a craft day on 15th December from 10:30am to 1pm. Come anytime between those times to participate in making holiday centre pieces. Children are very welcome so bring the family along, as it will be great engagement for the residents. If you play an instrument or if you'd like to make a baked good to add to the festivities, then that would be wonderful too! Any efforts in making this day special can be taken in the form of Timebank hours.
Every year on Christmas Day, St Joseps Church holds a Community Christmas dinner for those alone or unable to provide a Christmas dinner for themselves. To make the event more festive, the residents of Thornleigh Park will be making 20 decorative table centre pieces - and they would love you to come along and help!
Everything will be ‘user-friendly’ remembering that tools will be modified to maximise residents' abilities.
There are 3 basic ideas for our creations:
1) making snowman hats;
2) a variation on this to sit on the tables with pinecone centres;
3) giant Christmas crackers (decorative only).
Materials such as paper, cardboard, pinecones, tins, old records, ribbon, hot glue, craft glue and a few other bits and bobs will be used. If you have a glue gun, please bring along.
We will also make wreathes out of wire and plastic bags if we complete all of the centre pieces.
For those of you who think they or their kids might feel a bit peckish from all the crafting and making, there will be some snacks and drinks provided by the rest home. And of course, you're welcome to bring along your own food creations to share at the event. As usual, you can earn time for your baking and cooking.
If you plan to come along, please RSVP to email@example.com
