After the demise of the ever popular Organic Horticulture evening class, we can finally confirm a new full-time (Mon – Thurs) Horticulture day course held between Witt and the Wise Better Homes site in Waitara at the old community garden. We will be rejuvenating the gardens and growing lots of fruit and veg, hopefully to share with the local community. This is a venture run in conjunction with Land based Training and Witt.
Course attendees will attain their NCEA Level 3 in Horticulture, and be ready to be employed in a local horticultural concern, or start their own business.
The course content will cover organic gardening, soils, liquid fertilisers, vermiculture, pest and diseases, nursery production, irrigation, pruning and growing and harvesting a crop.
The course fee is $700 for the 20 week course, however the Alexander Trust is willing to subsidise half the course fee of $350. There are also some additional funding options. Studylink is also available for this course. The enrolment date for the course is 4 April 2017, although there will still be a chance to get on the course up until 28 April.
