This workshop is a little different from the usual NaturePlay Adventures workshops in that we are using finished timber to make this lovely yet functional tool box. Turn up at the building site with one of these beauties and you'd be the talk of the day. This projects teaches children about measuring and squaring timber, and gives good opportunity to practice using a handsaw. Children learn to pre-drill and glue timber before joining then using short lengths of dowel to hide the screws. These are neat traditional skills and make a beautiful finished product.
The mallets are straightfoward and very satisfying. Once they have the technique of fitting and wedging the handles they can make a range of different sized mallets and hammers. Endless fun.
We may even be able to knock out a peg hammering game for the little ones. A very nice little workshop with a true treasure to take home, that will be in the family for years to come.
The workshop costs $45 per child, which includes all materials, tools and tuition, and parents are welcome to attend and participate for free.
Covered shoes, warm clothes, a water bottle, and a lunch is all that the children need to bring.
