Sustainable Backyards Taranaki is back for another year.

Kia ora koutou, Rachel Eckersley here. I’m thrilled to be helping to make the Taranaki Sustainable Backyards Trail happen again this year. I’ll be updating the facebook page as things develop, but if you have any questions in the meantime, or you’d like to be involved or help out in any way, please contact me on

I’m really passionate about the kaupapa of the ‘Backyards Trail – that of sharing and learning around sustainable lifestyles - as I myself have learnt so much from talking to others and seeing their set ups over the past few years. As a result of all this inspiration, my partner and I have developed our low-maintenance, ‘ex-rental’ style yard (ie lawns and little else) into a fairly low-maintenance messy jungle that provides us with food and also provides the “noo noos” with refuge from the neighbourhood cats. I get great joy from taking my young son out to eat berries straight from the bush and collect eggs for his lunch. Anyway, enough about me – I just wanted to explain why I am excited to be working with you all on the 2016 Sustainable Backyards Trail :) Til soon!
