The standard of housing in NZ is generally poor. The regular Housing Condition Survey report on the state of New Zealand’s home in 2016 showed about half of all houses lacked adequate insulation (47%), contributing to 49% being damp and mouldy. In 46% of homes, bedrooms were unheated and 5% of homes were not heated at all.
