Tri Taranaki Festival - Zero Waste Heroes

We believe it's achievable to have every event in Taranaki be on the path to zero waste! So we teamed up with Taranaki Conservationists to help make the Tri Taranaki Festival at Ngamotu Beach as zero-waste as possible.

The recycling practices vary from region to region in New Zealand, so waste collection can be confusing at large events. Volunteers included students and guardians from Highlands Intermediate as well as a very experienced zero waste volunteer who normally helps with Bowl of Brooklands concerts. Julz Jamieson, the teacher from Highlands Intermediate, said it was a great learning opportunity for the students who saw just how many people do not put the correct materials in the right bins.

It was Tri Taranaki’s first time implementing a zero-waste system, and it was a great collaborative effort to educate the public and divert waste from landfills. This collaboration will only grow from here and we hope that more events – and ultimately individuals - will work towards becoming the same zero waste vision!
