The role for Te Ara Taiao
We are looking for a dynamic Kairuruku / education coordinator to work on Te Ara Taiao, a collaborative conservation project. Te Ara Taiao brings together hapū, schools, early childhood centres, and local organisations to drive and sustain conservation and conservation education. The vision is to be a leading local community that uplifts the natural ecology and mauri of Taranaki Maunga.
The primary purpose of the Kairuruku / Education Coordinator role is to:
Support and inspire a Student Leadership Team to build environmental leadership in Te Ao Māori and Te Ao Hurihuri.
Integrate tikanga, Te Reo and mātauranga Māori throughout Te Ara Taiao and working in partnership with hapū representatives.
Provide advice, support and professional development to teachers and students.
Build and maintain strong relationships that grow conservation interest, aimed at achieving the vision and goals of Te Ara Taiao.
Enable education, conservation and cultural outcomes through authentic opportunities in the local context.
Plan and monitor progress with the Strategic Leadership Group.
Your experience / abilities
Education; working with youth/schools.
Conservation knowledge, especially in the field.
Knowledge of the Taranaki rohe and mātauranga Māori.
Relationships and track record in working with hapū.
Knowledge of te reo Māori me ngā tikanga.
Good project management skills; autonomous self-starter.
Proven ability to network and connect people together, including among schools and community groups.
Your personal attributes
You will be passionate about the mission of both Te Ara Taiao and Taranaki Tiaki Taiao - Sustainable Taranaki. You will be positive and professional, approachable, have drive and integrity and be excellent at developing and maintaining stakeholder relationships. You will be a great communicator, comfortable working independently but also be a team player, have excellent local networks and be able to manage project KPI’s and deadlines.

Te Ara Taiao is funded through Jobs for Nature until the end of 2024 and continue to apply for funding
This Kairuruku role is 20 hours per week, to be confirmed with successful candidate. You will work closely with Te Ara Taiao Regional Manager, hapū and local partners and the Sustainable Taranaki team.
Access to a reliable laptop and car for travel mostly within the New Plymouth and South Taranaki district, occasionally further afield, is required.

St George’s Community Garden Coordinator (Pātea)
Position Summary
Draw the local community together to found a community garden at St Georges. Grow the garden and attract local volunteer support and encourage neighbourhood connection, promote food resilience and positive behavioural change for local environmental action.
5 hours per week with the flexibility to manage your own schedule based on the needs of the community and the garden.
Primary Responsibilities
Organise community meetings to plan out the garden and find volunteers
Form meaningful relationships with neighbours and volunteers
Engage local hapu and iwi, whanau, groups, schools, organisations, businesses, and tamariki to find out their priorities and barriers to participation. Implement solutions to overcome these barriers
Ensure the garden is rustically attractive and produces food by working alongside the volunteers
Welcome visitors and groups by physically meeting them in the garden
Seek out support and donations for the garden
Secondary Responsibilities:
Run biweekly working bees & invite volunteers to take part regularly
Complete simple reports for ST and funders, author brief articles, and take photos
Use social media and other communication channels to engage new and existing audiences
Document and collate data to support future funding requirements
