A Day in the Green Loop: Two Free Events during the Sustainable Trails

On Monday 9 November, Green Loop is opening the gates at Eudaimonia (Korito Rd) for two free events about turning food scraps into healthy soil. Both are part of the Taranaki Sustainable Trails: Backyards, Builds & Farms (30 October to 15 November 2026), and you can come to one or both!

Compost Nerd-Out: The Science of Green Loop

Monday 9 Nov. 10am – 12:30pm

If you’ve ever wondered what is happening inside a compost heap, this session is for you. Researchers from Massey University join the Sustainable Taranaki Green Loop team for a deep dive into the science of turning food waste into living soil. The session draws on the Pivot Research-in-Action Award 2026 and covers bokashi fermentation, Soil Food Web biology, portable eDNA sequencing and microbial ecology. It suits farmers, growers, educators, students, researchers and anyone who is “compost-curious”.

Food Scraps to Living Soil: Green Loop’s Guided Tour

Monday 9 Nov. 1:30pm – 3pm

After the science, see it in practice. This guided tour looks back on the first year of the Green Loop Pilot, which has been turning food waste from local businesses into a resource for the land. You’ll see bokashi fermentation, several composting systems, biological monitoring, and how the finished compost is used in regenerative growing systems. It is aimed at farmers, growers, lifestyle block owners, gardeners, businesses, educators and community groups.
